Hello there

Medication for ADHD

Here you will find out all of the information you need about seeking medication for ADHD through our medical pathway

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) - Medication

WMAAAS has established a shared pathway agreement with an independent prescribing service. This service is led by a partner consultant psychiatrist. While there is no obligation to use this service, it provides a streamlined pathway for our clients who wish to seek medication after diagnosis.

Step 1: Starting Medication (Initiation)

Our partner psychiatrist can initiate medication for children (aged 6+) and adults. They will review your WMAAAS report prior to booking.

  • Appointment Type: Face-to-face at Lyndon House clinic or online services.
  • Duration: Approximately 60 minutes.
  • The Process:
    • Discussion of treatment options, outcomes, and concerns.
    • Cardiovascular health check (blood pressure, pulse, cardiovascular history). You may be asked to check your blood pressure at home if necessary with a home device.
    • Issuing of a private prescription sent to a pharmacy.
    • A letter sent to your GP within 2 weeks outlining the outcome.

Step 2: Ongoing Care (Titration)

Once medication is started, you must be seen regularly to ensure the dose is stable and safe. This period averages 3–4 months.

  • Appointment Type: Face-to-face or Video Conference (up to 45 mins).
  • The Process:
    • Reviewing symptom impact and side effects.
    • Taking physical readings (weight, pulse, BP).
    • Adjusting dosage if required.

Step 3: Long-Term Care & Shared Care Agreements

Once you are stable on your medication, the specialist can request that your NHS GP takes over the prescribing via a Shared Care Agreement.

  • If your GP Agrees: Your GP will issue your monthly prescriptions on the NHS. You will still need an annual specialist review with the specialist.

  • If your GP Declines: You can continue to obtain medication privately through the clinic. They can issue up to 3 months of medication at a time. You will need a follow-up appointment every 6–12 months.
